“Burning the candle at both ends”
To work or do other things from early in the morning until late at night and so get very little rest

With three businesses between us, three kids, two dogs and an acreage to maintain, it’s no wonder that when it comes time to book a holiday, we do it properly! At the moment, we simply don’t have the time for an extensive trip, instead we opt for weekends away to break the monotony of business and spend time together. Our latest trip to the Gold Coast was exactly what the Doctor ordered, plus the hotel we stayed at had toilet paper. What a luxury!
staying and playing…
There are certain pockets of the GC that simply do it right and Broadbeach is one of those places. Originally the little brother to Surfers Paradise, it’s now a vibing, super trendy hot spot for visitors and locals alike. Matt and I stayed at the Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach hotel because I’m a poolside bandit and that bad boy looked good! And good it was my friends. However, there’s plenty of incredible places to stay on the Gold Coast so get ready to be swept off your tired feet, now’s the time to relax and enjoy yourself. The Sofitel have partnered with 19 Karen, turning their entire foyer into a contemporary artspace. It’s such an unexpected delight to experience as a guest, especially as an art-loving guest. How cool is that orange metal poodle?
Has anyone seen me eat by chance? You’d think my parents starved me as a child, let’s just say I really like my food. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, perhaps I’m a man? Anyway, moving on. The husband and I booked into the only French Lounge in Broadbeach, Room 81 Lounge & Brasserie for dinner on Friday night. I had the most tender lamb I’ve ever consumed in my life followed by a peanut Crème Brulee. Good times. We continued the spoil session in the morning with a full buffet breakfast (see photo below of “patient Danni” waiting for food wearing a hat).
Relaxation and self care are two very important parts of a mini getaway. Some people go for massages or day spas, others play golf or do Yoga, I on the other hand find inner peace by laying my eyes on visually beautiful things. The Beach Furniture store was all the self care I needed and even said husband loved it. He is also the ultimate shopping boycoter, you mention the S-word, and that man is like Harry Houdini. Anyway, with its gorgeous white epoxy floors and a banquet of coastal elements, The Beach Furniture is a visual delight for sore eyes. Their products have a point of difference that I find many furniture retailers lack these days, it was refreshing to see new pieces! They also stock my favourite fragrance brand Palm Beach Collection. What a win!
If you’ve been following my socials for a while, you’ll know I love nothing more than a day at the racetrack. Being the Ambassador for the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, I figured it would be rather fitting of me to grace the green grass of the Gold Coast Turf Club. Fortunately, our mini getaway just happened to fall on the weekend of the Jewel Race Day, coincidental much? Dressed to the nines, we rocked the Chandon Blanc De Bloom function space which was outrageously fun. Think all things feminine, fancy and visually beautiful, combined with a gorgeous spread of delicious delights. And did I mention Chandon allllllll day? I found myself chatting with a lovely bunch of women, which naturally led to cutting shapes on the d-floor to old school classics. Utter perfection! (photo of gorgeous ladies below). PS: I won money and Matt lost, sucked in.
