Byron Bay: A quick coastal getaway

a overnighter in byron…

If you’ve read my last blog post by any chance, you’ll know that I’ve been a very busy lady of late. Between house extensions, renovations and landscaping as well as an Italian exchange student staying with us, personal training sessions, a new diet and of course running a business; both my partner and I have been run off our feet. It was actually his idea to send me on a quick getaway (bless his cotton socks), perhaps he had noticed I was run down and not my normal energetic self. I was tired… Really tired!

the shopping…

I’m not even joking – one night was all I needed, as I looked upon that perfect crystal clear ocean my entire structured thought process drifted away and I cruised into island time. It’s such a beautiful and calm place (in Winter out of school holidays), it’s amazing how powerful beautiful scenery can alter ones sense of being. In 24 hours a managed to fit in a little bit of everything that most women love. Byron has quite a few trendy boutiques owned by creative Melbournites and Sydneysiders looking for a better lifestyle or beach escape, so shopping was high on my list. I stumbled across a grumpy but gorgeous French Bulldog in the Afends store and a King Charles Spaniel in Mr Simple. Dogs and shopping, I was in heaven.

the lighthouse trail…

I was in bed watching the Olympics by 7:30pm with lavender oil on my temples and Ugg boots on my feet. What a treat! Not before a beautiful dinner at Byron Fresh listening to the sweet sounds of Essie Thomas – a local busker. Honestly, it couldn’t have been better and it was exactly what I needed. The following morning I was out the door by 8am, not 6am or 7am… 8am! Dressed in my new active wear thanks to Lorna Jane Byron Bay, I enjoyed a quick organic breakfast and another shop in Girl Overboard who have THE BEST beach dresses. Then I was on my way to The Pass to commence the Lighthouse Trail. This is an absolute must do when visiting Byron Bay. Can you believe this is where the majority of my family is from – I was born in Lismore, lived in Bangalow and Byron until I was in primary school, then spent most school holidays at my Grandmas house in Byron well into my teens, and still hadn’t walked the Lighthouse Trail? Poor form, very poor form indeed. There’s a photo of my Grandmas home below which fortunately now belongs to my father. It’s not much, but it’s priceless and holds the best memories of my childhood.

the beach…

You can’t visit Byron Bay and not go to the beach, especially with such perfect weather. So it was off with the active wear and on with the bikini’s and straight to Clarks Beach. I actually fell asleep pretty much straight away and woke up over an hour later. Thankfully I was wearing sunscreen! It was now 2pm and I’m thinking about traffic and the logistics of my journey back to the Sunshine Coast. I really needed to leave earlier, whoopsie! By 3pm I was fuelled up, in the car, tunes on and cruising back to the coast. I can’t believe my little adventure was only 24 hours yet I felt like it was at least of couple of days. Mind you I certainly made the most of it!

My overnighter in Byron was exactly what I needed to reset and jump straight back into the deep end! On my return I received a lot of love from the fam and a lot of licks from the fur-babies. Here is Bozley shortly after my return.
